brideshead and the destruction of a story.

brideshead revisited is coming up at the cinemas now this fall. being a hollywood version of waugh's wonderful epic novel, it has a lot to prove, or at least to make the movie just. having the praised series filmed in the 80's behind, doesn't directly make it easier. voices have been heard claiming it to more or less destroy the original plot. i see a lot of sense in this criticism. just the fact of shifting focus from sebastian and charles's relationship to the one of charles and julia makes the story a completely different one, and in my opinion a worse one as well. something disappears, something with the uniqueness of it. it becomes mainstream. but. i haven't seen it yet, so i'll return with a more vivid perception of it, even though a trailer says a lot. oh well.

life continues in flekke. yesterday i borrowed a book in french to practice for my sat, which i'll have in that very subject. now maybe the choice of the book may have something to do with this (les mots by jean-paul sartre, not the little mermaid directly) but i felt so incredibly stupid and was terrified over my french deteriorating to such a shameful level. but, living a year in an anglosaxian environment has its inpacts i guess. anyhow, i'm going to try to continue with the book, and hopefully read some parts of l'étranger as well. i've read that one in swedish, which makes it much easier.

and i think i'm coming home during the november break, yey!

back to schoolwork.

à bientôt
